I highly recommend having an appraisal for each piece of valuable jewelry. I have been contacted by several customers who have had their jewelry lost or stolen and needed proof of their purchase. Your insurance carrier uses the appraisal to determine the cost of replacement.
Be sure that the appraiser is certified as a Gemologist, Appraiser and Diamond Grader.
They will provide an image of the item and describe it's features ie:
Shape: 1 round brilliant cut diamond
Gauging: 3.2 x 3.2 mm
Weight: 0.12 ct
Clarity: I-1
Color: H-I
Cut: Good
Total Diamond Weight:
Total Weight of Item:
retail replacement value:
It is a small price to pay for protection.
